General Management Features
Touch-N-Go PC-less Installation You can use the front panel LCD display to complete the first time installation in a few simple steps. The Ciphertex NAS will automatically complete the hard disk formatting and RAID building.
Easy setup and configuration Setting up local or remote access with the Ciphertex NAS is effortless and does not require any specialized IT skills. The setup process have been simplified so that the majority is either automatic or can be completed by an installation wizard. The user-friendly web GUI allows administrators to easily manage the NAS so there is no need for an extensive knowledge of complex commands.
DOM (SSD) Architecture and Fail-safe Dual OS Two operating systems are built on the DOM of the Ciphertex NAS for system booting alternatively upon every system startup. When one fails, the other one will be used to boot up the Ciphertex NAS, and the failed OS is recoverable from the other healthy OS.
Secure access control Complete control of the Ciphertex NAS is offered from user account to share folder access rights to determine who and what can be accessed. The Ciphertex NAS offers a variety of security options such as encrypted access, IP filtering, policy-based automatic IP blocking, and more.
Shared Folder Management The IT administrator can select to hide or show selected shared folders of the NAS on the network.
Advanced folder permissions allows Administrators to configure folder/subfolder access to the NAS. With this feature enabled, Administrators can manage the folder permissions below the top level share from the web-based management interface easily.
Superior Performance and Energy-saving Design Ciphertex NAS delivers superior performance and high reliability for critical business applications. It is optimized to achieve low noise and low power consumption for environment protection.
Smart Fan The fan rotation speed is automatically adjusted according to the Server and Disk Drive temperature. You can also define the system temperatures to trigger high speed or low speed fan rotation. By manually setting the fan rotation speed, the fan will rotate at the defined speed continuously.
Wake on LAN Enable this option to power on Ciphertex NAS remotely by Wake on LAN.
HDD Stand-by Mode Save power consumption by enabling this option to make HDD enter stand-by mode if there is no access within the specified period.
Scheduled Power On/Off You can create schedules to automatically turn on, turn off, or restart the Ciphertex NAS. Up to 15 schedules can bet set.
Network UPS Support This feature allows multiple Ciphertex NAS servers on the same physical network to be protected by a single UPS via receiving UPS notification about abnormal power supply events.
Detailed System Information Display View the system status, such as CPU usage, total memory, free memory, packets received, packets sent, error packets, system up time, CPU temperature, system temperature, hard disk drive temperature, and system fan speed.
Practical System and Authority Control Management Tools
• Instant SMS and Email Alert You can configure the SMTP server and SMSC server settings on the Ciphertex NAS in order to receive instant system warning or error messages by email and/or SMS.
• SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) You can collect the information, warning or error of the Ciphertex NAS and send to a maximum of 3 SNMP servers for centralized management and real-time monitoring.
• Comprehensive Event Log System Detailed logs of file-level data access to the Ciphertex NAS via SAMBA, iSCSI, FTP, AFP, HTTP, HTTPS, Telnet, and SSH, and networking services accessed by online users can be recorded.
• S.M.A.R.T. & Advanced HDD Health Scanning (HHS) S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) helps you monitor the hard disk drives status. Moreover, Ciphertex NAS supports HHS (HDD Health Scan) for disk checking and bad block scanning.
• Syslog Sever Support All the system event logs and connection logs can be saved to a remote Syslog server.
Windows Active Directory (AD) and LDAP Account Import You can join the Ciphertex NAS to your Windows AD domain or LDAP server in order to import the user accounts and groups to let users access the Ciphertex NAS with the same login settings. The Ciphertex NAS also supports setup of a large number of local of users and user groups.

Benefits of Multiple LAN Ports Ciphertex NAS supports multiple IP addresses or Port Trunking modes: Balance-rr (Round-Robin), Active Backup, Balance XOR, Broadcast, IEEE 802.3ad, Balance-tlb (Adaptive Transmit Load Balancing) and Balance-alb (Adaptive Load Balancing).
• Multi-IP Address Setting Allows sharing among different workgroups in two different subnets

Policy-based Automatic IP Blocking To prevent the Ciphertex NAS from malicious attacks, you can create an IP filter policy to allow, deny, or auto-block the IP address or network domain which attempts to connect to the Ciphertex NAS via SSH/Telnet/HTTP(S)/FTP/Samba/AFP.
Virtual LAN The IT administrator can integrate the NAS to an existing VLAN and configure the NAS as the storage system of other VLAN devices. By enabling VLAN on the NAS, only the devices with the same VLAN ID can access the NAS.
IPv6 Ciphertex NAS supports IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) which makes your NAS a dual-stack IP host running IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time.
SSL Security (HTTPS) The Ciphertex NAS supports HTTPS connection. The IT administrator can upload a secure certificate and RSA private key in X.509PEM format issued by a trusted provider to allow access to the NAS via secure SSL login.
Secure FTP The Ciphertex NAS offers secure FTP data transfer with SSL/TLS (explicit) encryption. Passive FTP port range setup is also supported.
High Network Bandwidth All Ciphertex NAS devices with 6 Bays or more offer network expansion options which includes dual-port 1 GbE and dual-port 10 GbE network expansion cards, to aggregate and boost network performance. The NAS units include two Gigabit (GbE) LAN ports which can be expanded to four GbE LAN ports or two 10 GbE LAN ports plus two GbE ports.
Shared Folder Aggregation Access the share folders of other servers with Microsoft Networking through a "portal folder" on a Ciphertex NAS. This saves the time and effort of loging in to different servers one by one.
RAID and Volume Management
Advanced RAID Management with Hot-swap Design Ciphertex NAS offers RAID 0, 1, 5, 5 + hot spare, 6, 6 + hot spare, single drive, and JBOD disk configurations. It also supports a hot-swap design such that a failed member drive of a RAID configuration (RAID 1 or above only) can be replaced by hot swapping without turning off the server.
Volume Bitmap support reduces the time required to rebuild failed RAID volumes.
Global Hot Spare The Global Hot Spare feature allows the administrator to share spare drives with multiple RAID volumes on the NAS. When a hard drive fails in any RAID volume, the global hot-spare drive will automatically replace the data on the failed drive to prevent loss. Compared with a local spare drive, the Global Hot Spare function offers more efficient use of spare drives.
Online RAID Capacity Expansion The storage capacity for the Ciphertex NAS can be expanded by replacing the hard disks with larger drives. All the data will be kept and seamlessly moved to the newly installed hard drives without turning off the server.
Online RAID Level Migration You can upgrade the disk configuration to higher RAID level with the data retained without turning off the server.
Share Volume Expansion The storage capacity for the Ciphertex NAS can be expanded by attaching an external storage device like the Ciphertex Ranger (portable RAID) which will become a new shared volume.
Encrypted RAID Expansion The extensive security features of the Ciphertex NAS make this product well suited to environments requiring extra protection for the stored data. For situations requiring maximum data security, a Ciphertex external RAID system with Hardware AES-256 encryption can by connected to the Ciphertex NAS providing complete security of the stored data. It allows Data from the Ciphertex NAS to be transferred to the external encrypted RAID, and then removed to be connected elsewhere. The Hardware encryption provides superior security with no loss of performance when connected through the Ciphertex NAS.
Storage Expansion by Virtual Disk Drive (VDD) Ciphertex NAS supports flexible storage expansion by stacking other iSCSI target storage devices on the network via its built-in iSCSI initiator. The connected iSCSI targets are turned into "virtual disk drives" of the Ciphertex NAS to provide more storage capacity.
AES 256-bit Volume-based Data Encryption A Ciphertex NAS volume configured with AES 256-bit encryption can only be accessed by an authorized encryption password or key. This prevents Ciphertex NAS data from unauthorized access and data breach even if the hard disk drives were stolen. *The data encryption functions may not available in accordance to the legislative restrictions of some countries.
Backup/Restore and Disaster Recovery
Superior Backup Support Ciphertex NAS offers you the most complete backup solution with Apple Time Machine support, remote replication to an Rsync or FTP server, and third party backup software support, and so on.
Rsync Replication The data stored on the Ciphertex NAS can be remotely backed up to another Ciphertex NAS or to external servers with Rsync protocol over the network or Internet with or without encryption.
Real-time Remote Replication (RTRR) provides real-time or scheduled data replication between the Ciphertex NAS and a remote Ciphertex NAS, an FTP server, or an external drive with or without encryption.
Complete Data Backup Solution with Disaster Recovery Ciphertex NAS offers complete backup solution for data protection, support for cloud-based storage backup (Amazon S3), Apple Time Machine, encrypted remote replication, third party software backup, and one-touch-copy backup. You can choose different backup modes for redundant data backup.
Apple Time Machine Backup and Management Mac users can back up data from Mac PCs and Notebooks to the Ciphertex NAS via Time Machine. This feature saves the storage space of your Mac units. You can also specify the storage space dedicated to Time Machine backup on the Ciphertex NAS and manage the backup data easily via the web-based administration interface.
Cloud Storage Backup The Ciphertex NAS is ready to send private data to the clouds! The NAS supports Amazon S3 cloud backup storage which has several backup modes including real-time, scheduled backup and versioning control so that the data can be restored from any point of time. Cloud storage can be monitored through a web browser. An extra set of all of the data stored will always be available, so remote data recovery is quick and simple.
One-touch-copy Backup You can configure the one-touch-copy button on the front of the Ciphertex NAS (except Rack Mount) to copy the data from the NAS to an external storage device or vice versa. The Ciphertex NAS supports EXT3/EXT4; NTFS and HFS+ file systems for high speed data transfer and enhanced compatibility between the Ciphertex NAS and Windows and Linux PCs or Mac OS X.
iSCSI LUN Backup and Restore The Ciphertex NAS has taken iSCSI LUN backup/restore to a whole new level with snapshot technology. The IT administrator can use the LUN snapshot to back up contents in the LUN to various storage destinations, including Windows shared folders via SMB/CIFS, Linux shared folders via NFS, or local shared folders on the NAS.
Third-party Backup Software The Ciphertex NAS is compatible with popular third-party backup software, for example, Acronis True Image, CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup, EMC Retrospect, and Symantec Backup Exec.
Feature-rich and Integrated Applications for Business Ciphertex NAS supports file sharing across Windows, Mac, Linux, and UNIX platforms. Versatile business applications such as file server, FTP server, printer server, web server, and Windows AD (Active Directory) support are provided. The dominant features, such as WebDAV, Share Folder Aggregation (also known as DFS), HDD S.M.A.R.T, comprehensive log systems, and policy-based unauthorized IP blocking are all included.
File Server Ciphertex NAS allows file sharing across Windows, Mac, Linux, and UNIX platforms. It also supports WebDAV for you to access the share folders via HTTP/HTTPS protocol remotely.
FTP Server You can set up Ciphertex NAS as an FTP server and share the files conveniently with your friends or customers.
Printer Server The Ciphertex NAS supports USB printer sharing over the network (max. 3 USB printers). The NAS offers printer sharing over the network and remote printing over the Internet via IPP (Internet Printing Protocol). Print job management, and Bonjour printing for Mac OS X are also supported.
Virtual Host Supported Web Server You can host multiple websites on Ciphertex NAS with the built-in web server and virtual host feature. The Ciphertex NAS supports PHP, MySQL, HTTPS connection, and SSL authentication. It is the ideal solution for you to create your own websites, and so on.
Surveillance Monitoring You can connect to maximum 4 IP cameras via Ciphertex NAS and set up a video surveillance system with comprehensive monitoring, recording, and playback features.
Web File Manager Ciphertex NAS provides a web-based File Manager for you to access and manage the server data anytime, anywhere by a web browser. Web File Manager supports intelligent data search, batch files upload and download, file extraction, and so on. With the support for encrypted data transfer and access control management on the Ciphertex NAS, you can access and share the data by Web File Manager securely.
Syslog Server allows the IT administrator to effectively collect and store logs of other network devices in the Ciphertex NAS. With the Syslog server feature, the IT administrator can easily monitor the status of these devices and troubleshoot problems when necessary.
RADIUS Server The RADIUS server centralizes and consolidates user authentication by maintaining a list of user accounts that are authorized for remote network access through dial-up equipment, Wi-Fi access point, or VPN connections.
VPN Server The VPN (Virtual Private Network) service allows remote users to access the NAS and other resources on the same local network from the Internet. Users can access all services provided by the NAS remotely and securely.
LDAP Server For business with needs for a directory service the NAS can be turned into a LDAP server and centralize user privilege management.
Antivirus The built-in antivirus scanning engine protects the NAS from becomming a carrier for virus and other malware. Scanning is available by scheduling or on-demand. New iSCSI features for Virtualization Environments Ciphertex NAS provides flexible and secure storage server deployment with the following enhanced iSCSI features:
• NAS + iSCSI Hybrid storage solution Ciphertex NAS can serve as a NAS (network-attached storage) for file sharing and as an iSCSI storage device concurrently.
• Flexible multiple LUNs management The Ciphertex NAS supports multiple LUNs (Logical Unit Numbers) and iSCSI targets. The LUNs can be flexibly mapped to, unmapped from, and switched among different iSCSI targets.
